The Long Sleeve winter Base Layer is created in NuYarn a technologically advanced Merino wool manufactured to be better than pure merino in every way.

Wool is a very personal choice especially when it comes to base layers you will either love them or hate them - We will say that for all out performance, say doing sweaty Hill-Rep sessions wool is surpassed by polyester based fabrics that wick and dry quicker. But this is Chpt. /// its not about racing its about cycling for the sheer joy of riding and for riders who embrace that philosophy, wool is a fantastic winter material.

The 1.82 LSWBL is cut generously and features contrast cuffs and neckline also making it a great winter tee or sweatshirt - if this is going to be a pure riding top consider sizing down.

The LSWBL 1.82 as told by David Millar

The Long Sleeve Winter Base Layer is a staple item of every cyclists winter wardrobe. Sometimes we have no choice but to venture out when it's cold or wet, or worse, when it's cold and wet. That's when the LSWBL is dug out from it's summer hibernation.

My experience has proved that when it comes to winter base layers it's hard to beat the benefits of good old-fashioned wool, problem with wool is that although it performs well under normal circumstances it doesn't handle the requirements of high performance quite so well. For this reason we have used a new technology that involves wrapping a nylon core with merino wool which makes the fabric comfier, stretchier, drier, warmer, stronger and tougher than normal wool. It's surprisingly light for its warmth, and warm for its weight. The traditional downsides of wool - stretching and twisting with age, have been eradicated.

It's designed for cool weather riding and is to be worn directly against the skin where it works as a great wicking first layer. We've designed it more like a classic sweatshirt (a staple of every wardrobe) than a tech piece.
This is because during my racing years I would often wear my LSWBL's off the bike, for this reason we added design details to the Chpt./// LSWBL that enable it to be worn off the bike as well as on it. The cut is close-to-body but not skin tight, after all, it's too good to be used just for cycling.

Castelli Cafe - Fitting Guide

Castelli is sized against the rider's physical dimensions the size data in the size guide is the rider size, not the garment size. Castelli garment size is optimised for intended function, So for example an Aero Jersey or Speed Suit are designed to be extremely close fitting, using the material stretch to fit the rider's torso. A race jersey laid on top of a non race jersey of the same size may appear 5cm narrower and not as long - this is intentional as the garment fabrics are designed to stretch to accommodate the riders body shape creating a very close aerodynamic race fit. Never measure old kit to get your Castelli size always measure yourself.

Shoe covers are designed to fit snuggly over road racing shoes only (unless otherwise stated). If your shoes are to the upper end of the size designation and have bulky buckles you should consider the next size up.

1. Snug Fitting; On the bike your jersey or jacket fits snuggly. When riding you don't hear or feel any fabric flapping the close fit helps the capillary action of the fabric to draw moisture from the skin helping you feel drier and more comfortable.

2. Rider Positioning; Fit Off the bike your Castelli jersey or jacket might feel tight across the chest and a little short at the front. This is because the jersey is designed to fit the rider in the riding position. On the bike the fit is prefect with no bunching at the waist and no sagging over the chest. Please keep this in mind when trying on new garments.

3. Fabric Engineering; We use fabrics specifically engineered to wick moisture from the skin or between fabrics, We have created a apparel range that starts with wicking base layers passes through jerseys and onto jackets and shell fabrics. Every element is designed to optimize its specific application - wicking, cooling, thermo regulation, breathability and protection. In order for this to work the fit has to be snug (but never tight)

4. Aerodynamics; The other important aspect of close fitting garments is the aerodynamic advantage they provide. We work closely with professional riders from the Cannondale Team and in wind tunnels to optimise the fit, (again in the important riding position) sleeves are articulated forward to eliminate wrinkles and provide maximum body contact. As an example of our obsession we created the Gabba range of products based around the fit of a race jersey Gabba fits snuggly but provides ultimate weather protection its a key race piece for poor weather conditions allowing athletes to gain an aero advantage over rivals in rain capes.

5. Bib-short Fit; Bib-shorts fit is just as important as a jersey in providing performance - enhancing features such as aerodynamics and muscle support, as well as protecting your bottom from hours spent in the saddle. Bib-shorts should fit tightly enough to support critical leg muscles through compression without inhibiting movement and constricting blood flow. Using a combination of fabrics allows us to fine tune each material's characteristics to optimize fit and performance.

Chpt. /// Care Instructions*

I'm sorry if you have to read this.

These instructions should be totally superfluous.

In a perfect world you are already in the bar having a drink

(or in the bath with a glass of port)

with not a care in the world about locating a washing machine

and barely an idea regarding the existence of care instructions

Life's not perfect though, well, not all the time

So please pay attention and read this carefully,

contrary to my fathers belief system,

this isn't "the manufacturers opinion" these are the facts.

WE MEAN THIS

Don't pretend you know how to wash Chpt. /// because you don't and you will ruin it.

1. MACHINE WASH WARM 30C, (use a non bio liquid detergent) or if you have help, handwash

2.LINE DRY (this means hang it up to dry naturally, not tie it to your roof rack).

DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTNER

DO NOT USE BLEACH OR DETERGENTS THAT CONTAIN BLEACH

DO NO IRON

DO NOT BE LAZY and let it lie around wet and dirty, get it in the wash ASAP,

NO MATTER HOW TIRED YOU ARE ON YOUR RETURN FROM RIDING MAKE THIS A PRIORITY.

*if you follow these instructions you Chpt. /// will last much much longer.

For specific care of The Rocka Jersey please follow our Gabba care instructions in our general care Guide Castelli Cafe Garment Care
