We didn't see any point in trying to re-invent the wheel when it came to creating our very own Chpt./// cycling cap, after all this is the most iconic of cycling pieces. During my career I saw many things change (for better and worse), one of the things I think is better and worse is the fact helmets have to be worn all the time now, I loved racing in a casquette like in the old black and white photos of Coppi et al, I know it wasn't big or clever but it felt good and looked cool.
So we have gone out of our way to create a cap that captures that classic look, and it is something easier said than done. They have been made in a specialist cycling cap factory in Italy rather than in house, and the material used is far superior to that more commonly used, it has been distressed to give it a slightly worn and natural look which makes the material softer during the process. Combine the extra paneling involved in the cut and it allows the cap to sit in a much more elegant fashion than most modern 'traditional' casquettes.
The colour chosen is the Outer Space blue, because of the pre-washing it is very slightly faded out and used looking, although the quality is obvious. We decided this colour would most easily go with anything in the entire Chpt./// range. The label is sewn on to the peak at a jaunty angle in respect to the fact that a cycling cap need never be completely straight, every wearer should find their own style for that particular situation. For example I would wear mine backwards with the peak flicked up when racing hard and forwards with the peak down when sitting in the bunch avoiding trouble…
